Thursday’s Post-Publication Post: Another Item Crossed Off My To-Do List

Remember that to-do list from the beginning of the summer? I am delighted to report that I can now cross off that list the very first item under the category of “quality of writing life.”

That’s right. Last Friday, armed with research and primed with questions, I set out for my local Apple store. (I’ve never purchased a non-Mac computer, and I’m not about to change that habit now.)

So I’m typing this blog post from my lovely, light new laptop: a MacBook Air. Even better, I’m no longer chained to my home desk, because I also purchased, at long last, an AirPort Express router. And, with a little help from some kindly tech folks on the phone, I managed to create a working wireless network of my own!

There’s a learning curve, of course. I’m still getting used to the “Pages” word processing program that the salesman encouraged me to try–for a mere $20–instead of plunking down several multiples of that some for an updated Microsoft Office. But these are productive lessons. And I love my new Mac!

How are your lists doing? Please feel free to share your updates and progress!

$20 is not bad for a decent commercial word processor. But you could use either OpenOffice or Libre Office for free and get the rest of the suite as well.

At home I use OpenOffice on my iMac and also have it on the wife’s Windblow$ laptop.

Congratulations! I switched to a Mac laptop this January…. amazing. I also signed up for the one-to-one workshops/personal projects and it has been incredibly helpful.

I switched to iMac from Dell last year, and I love it. It was expensive, but well worth it. I’ll never go back to a Windows system again. My next purchase will be an Apple laptop.

Thanks for all of the comments! I really do love Macs (I don’t have one at work). And Chloe, yes, I signed up of that service, too, and went to my first session last weekend.

Thank you for the advice, Erika. It was serendipitous…I am also in need of a new computer to upgrade from my clunky 2006 MacBook Pro. I’ll have to try out the MacBook Air + the Airport Express Router. THANKS! 🙂

M.E., I LOVE this computer! My previous laptop (bought once I was done with my MFA thesis in May 2003–I have a fear of big tech changes in the middle of big writing projects), was a PowerBook G4. And the hard drive had been replaced twice. So right now I feel as though I am immersed in the lap of techno-luxury. Good luck w/your choice!
