Monday brings the weekly batch of no-fee competitions/contests, paying submission calls, and jobs for those of us who write (especially those of us who write fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction).
Project 387 is taking applications (no fees) for its pilot residency program (two weeks), scheduled for August in northern California. Stipends ($800) to be awarded, too. Deadline: April 15, 2013.
From the Kentucky Foundation for Women: “KFW’s 2013 Summer Residency Program offers 5-10 feminist artists one to two weeks at Hopscotch House to deepen their art making, create connections and develop strategies to strengthen the social change impact of their work The supportive communal setting combines individual and collective time for art making and reflecting on the power of feminist art. Modest stipends to cover art supplies, food, travel and other costs are available by request.” Applicants must live and work in Kentucky. No application fee indicated. Deadline: April 19, 2013.
“SHENANDOAH will CLOSE OFF submissions via both the web and US Mail on April 3 and resume reading in September.” Payment: “will coincide with publication.”

Attention, Minnesota writers: “The Loft Literary Center invites poets, fiction, and nonfiction writers to apply to the 2013-2014 Mentor Series in Poetry and Creative Prose. This program offers advanced criticism and professional development opportunities to twelve writers: four each in the genres of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction.” NB: Winners “receive a modest stipend to defray the costs of program participation (book purchases, child care, etc.).” No application fee. Deadline: April 17, 2013.

Project 387 is so amazing – mainly the location OMG! Absolutely beautiful Redwood forest. Get lost in the creative process? Nah get lost in the stunning forest. I fell in love with redwoods there.
