Monday Markets for Writers

Monday brings the weekly batch of no-fee competitions/contests, paying submission calls, and jobs for those of us who write (especially those of us who write fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction).

  • Attention, Seattle-area writers: “Made at Hugo House is an artist support program that provides education, space, and resources for up to six writers in King County age 35 and younger developing new work. Applicants are selected for the Made at Hugo House program based on the artistic excellence of their writing and ability to complete their proposed project. Projects may include (but are not limited to) completing the first draft of a novel, developing and workshopping a solo play, or creating a manuscript of poetry. Benefits of the program include access to our classes, space for writing, readings, and performances, professional development opportunities, and support from our staff, writers-in-residence, and community of writers. The program culminates in public events featuring new work created by each writer.” There is no application fee. Deadline: June 24, 2013.
  • The Boston Globe is looking to hire an assistant arts editor.
  • The 2013 USC Annenberg/Getty Arts Journalism Program is a fellowship for arts, culture and entertainment editors, producers and writers. During this intense ten-day program, fellows will attend performances and exhibitions, and visit private studios, rehearsal rooms, architectural firms and art schools for behind-the-scenes opportunities to meet renowned artists, arts directors, curators, administrators and accomplished journalists. There will also be a Think & Do workshop in conjunction with the Annenberg Innovation Lab, and other opportunities for balancing meaningful face-to-face dialogue with skill-building practice.” NB: “The program covers most expenses, including: roundtrip travel to and from Los Angeles, hotel, most meals, reading materials, Internet access in hotel room and transportation within Los Angeles.” There is no application fee.   • “The Department of Literature at Claremont McKenna College seeks to fill a one-year replacement position for a visiting assistant professor in Creative Writing, possibly renewable for a second year.
