Monday Markets for Writers

Monday brings the weekly batch of no-fee competitions/contests, paying submission calls, and jobs for those of us who write (especially those of us who write fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction).

  • The Practicing Writer‘s October issue went out to subscribers earlier this morning. It’s jam-packed with no-fee competition listings and news re: paying calls, so be sure to check it out if you haven’t already. (This blog post will be correspondingly leaner–thanks for understanding)
  • Publication opportunity for undergraduate students: The Blue Route wants “good, highly imaginative writing about contemporary life as you see it.” Poetry & prose. Pays: “We pay twenty dollars upon publication.” Deadline: November 8, 2013. (via WritingCareer.com)
  • “The Chicago Tribune’s 12-week paid internship program seeks college juniors, seniors and graduate students to work on Printers Row Journal, a Sunday book section. To be eligible, candidates must have had at least one internship at a daily news organization other than a college paper. Interns will work 40 hours a week on a variety of editorial and clerical projects.”
  • “O, The Oprah Magazine is looking for a full-time, paid editorial intern (the perfect position for a recent graduate!) for the fall of 2013 and spring of 2014, beginning ASAP in early October 2013 and going through spring 2013.” Location: New York.
  • Bloomfield College (N.J.) is looking for an Assistant Professor of English & Creative Writing.
  • The University of Alabama is advertising for an Assistant Professor in Creative Writing (Creative Nonfiction).
  • Oberlin College seeks an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing (Poetry). (h/t Celeste Ng)
  • Clemson University (S.C.) “invites applications for an Assistant Professor, pending funding, in Creative Writing (Poetry or Fiction).”

      Good afternoon.

I admit that I receive your regular emails; but this is the first time I’ve actually visited your site.

It’s very nice and professionally done. Its appearance gives much to the credibility of the words written on it.

Thank you. I will be back.

      With grace,
      and gratitude,
      Cris

I’m so delighted to subscribe to your letter! And as I read a bit about you, I saw you were associated with J Journal! (I reviewed that journal for TheReviewReview.net!)
      All best, Lita Kurth

It’s a small literary world, indeed, Lita! Thanks for your comment.
