Monday Markets for Writers

Monday brings the weekly batch of no-fee competitions/contests, paying submission calls, and jobs for those of us who write (especially those of us who write fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction).

  • The Graybeal-Gowen Prize is an “annual prize of $500 is awarded by Shenandoah and the Virginia Poetry Center for a single poem by a writer born in or with current established residence in Virginia. The winning poem will be published in SHENANDOAH in March 2014.” No entry fee. Deadline: November 15, 2013.
  • From Jessica Strawser, Editor, Writer’s Digest magazine: “YA, kids & middle-grade authors: At @writersdigest we’re seeking craft/how-to articles re: your genres!”

  • “The Department of English in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, University of Colorado Denver invites applications for an Associate Professor in Creative Writing (open genre). This person will serve as the Managing Editor for the university’s nationally-distributed, biannual literary journal, Copper Nickel.”
  • Montclair State University (N.J.) is advertising for an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing. “Tenure track position in poetry-writing; secondary specialty in teaching fiction-writing or literature a plus.”
  • “The English Department at the University of Illinois Springfield invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in English, emphasis Creative Writing (poetry). Ph.D. required. MFA in poetry preferred. Experience or interest in digital and/or online publishing required. Preferred secondary fields include contemporary literature, Queer theory, and creative nonfiction.”
