Sunday Sentence

Dick-Cheney-WC-9246063-2-402
Another Sunday in which I participate in David Abrams’s “Sunday Sentence” project, which asks others to share the best sentence(s) we’ve read during the past week, “out of context and without commentary.”

“What do I pretend to know about love, its vagaries and mysteries, its inscrutability, its insistent pull?”

From Celeste Ng’s marvelous story “The Kind of Man,” on Five Chapters. (Wondering why I’ve included a photo of Dick Cheney here? Go read the story!)

I have to say, I was hoping it was a Cheney quote. I’m still intrigued though, so thanks.

Whew. When I saw you posted a picture of Cheney, I was about a second away from unsubscribing. I’m new to your blog and thought I made an enormously careless mistake in signing up (please pardon the dangling preposition). I took your suggestion to check out the article, though, just to unscare myself. I’m glad I did. I feel for those mothers. I would be terrified, as you can imagine given my reaction, some wrong people would say overreaction, to your picture of Cheney.

    Thanks for what you do.

Poignant, wonderful, disturbing, sad, heart-warming, and very real story.
