Friday Finds for Writers

Treasure ChestWriting-related resources, news, and reflections to enjoy over the weekend.

  • The Internet was filled with post-AWP reflections this week. Among those I appreciated most: contributions from John Vanderslice (on Payperazzi) and Michael Nye (on The Missouri Review‘s blog). Also valuable: panel reports posted on the Brevity blog.
  • Ron Charles takes on a dilemma most reviewers face at some point in “Confessions of a Serial Book-Spoiler.”
  • W.H. Auden had a secret life that his closest friends knew little or nothing about. Everything about it was generous and honorable. He kept it secret because he would have been ashamed to have been praised for it.”
  • Some of Carol Tice’s points in “How to Aggravate Top Bloggers So They’ll Never Help You” definitely resonate, so I’ll rephrase the title as “How to Aggravate ANY Bloggers So They’ll Never Help You”!
  • And some other highlights from this week that I recommend to you: Kevin Young and Terry Gross talking about Young’s newest poetry collection, an exquisite excerpt from my friend Beth Garland’s novel manuscript, and the re-launch of the Fiction Writers Review website. Enjoy them all!
  • Have a wonderful weekend.

The Auden article is jaw-dropping. It’s nice to hear the secret life of a writer whose work you admire is something you can also admire. For a change. 😉

        Oh, exactly!
