Friday Finds for Writers

Treasure Chest
Writing-related resources, news, and reflections to enjoy over the weekend.

  • I’m both a Francophile and a bibliophile, so I’m pretty excited about the “French Corners” concept for bookstores as reported in Shelf Awareness this week.
  • Observations on how we write about love, from Daniel Jones, who edits the “Modern Love” column for The New York Times.
  • Earlier this week, Linda K. Wertheimer hosted (and Storified!) a chat with Laurie Hertzel, books editor for the Star Tribune in Minneapolis, with all kinds of interesting info about book reviewing.
  • Speaking of reviewers: I’m late to notice this, but I love how Library Journal honored its “Reviewers of the Year 2014.”
  • Finally, selected content from the March/April 2015 issue of Poets & Writers is now online. May I confess that my favorite article is the spotlight on Fig Tree Books?
  • Have a great weekend!

    1. That “French Corner” idea is fantastic. I hope it succeeds. I’m a Francophile as well, but a bit of a late bloomer. My mom was wisely a Francophile decades ago. She went there on a Fulbright way back in fifties.

Oh, I bet she came back with stories!

        1. She certainly did. Her trip has become part of our family’s lore. France was still recovering from the war back then; she told us frequently about the scarcity they were suffering through. But she clearly enjoyed it. When she returned she married my dad!

I look forward to your newsletter. It is my wake up call each morning before I start writing. Thank you for your effort.
