Monday Markets for Writers: No Fees. Paying Gigs.

dollar-sign-mdMonday brings the weekly batch of no-fee competitions/contests, paying submission calls, and jobs for those of us who write (especially those of us who write fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction).

  • “We are happy to announce our free Prose Poetry Contest for Issue 6 of The Lindenwood Review.” Up to three prose poems may be submitted (no simultaneous submissions). Deadline: August 1, 2015. No entry fee. Prize: $50, publication, and three contributor copies.
  • “How does science inspire the literary imagination? Can science writing be a literary art? The Kenyon Review is looking for poetry, fiction, essays, and drama that respond to issues in science, ecology, and the environment for a special issue to be published in Sept/Oct 2016.” Deadline: December 31. Details here. Pays: “Payment for accepted work is made upon publication. Authors retain their copyright and will receive a contract upon acceptance.”
  • “The Asian American Writers’ Workshop (AAWW) and Opencitymag.com seek a passionate, curious, experienced editor and fellowship manager to lead its publication covering the Asian immigrant neighborhoods of New York into its next phase of growth….The editor…will spend three days a week in our Chelsea offices working with a stable of paid and volunteer writers—which include AAWW fellows, interns, and freelance writers—to produce well reported, thoughtful, and clean copy for posting each week.   • Chicago-based job: “U.S. Catholic magazine seeks an experienced associate editor to join a collaborative editorial team in creating content for both our monthly print magazine and our website. The associate editor will be responsible for developing and commissioning print and digital content, editing the print magazine, and participating in all editorial planning meetings. We are looking for someone with a deep knowledge of the Catholic Church who is well-versed in contemporary Catholic issues.”
  • Also in Chicago: “The ABA Journal, the nation’s leading legal affairs magazine, is seeking an Assistant Managing Editor for its print and online publications.”
  • “The Department of English at Washington University in Saint Louis seeks Visiting Writer-in-Residence in Poetry to begin in fall term 2015 with the possibility of three years maximum with renewal.”
  • “The Creative Writing Program at the University of Oregon welcomes applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Poetry for Winter and Spring terms (12/16/1506/15/16). M.F.A., Ph.D., or M.A. in Creative Writing.”
  • “The Department of English and Comparative Literature in the McMicken College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a visiting position in poetry-writing for the 2015-16 academic year, with renewal possible for one or more years. MFA or PhD is required in creative writing/poetry.”
