Friday Finds for Writers

Treasure Chest
Writing-related resources, news, and reflections to enjoy over the weekend.

  • Oh, blurbs!
  • On Facebook, Rattle‘s editor opens a discussion about poetry-book reviews.
  • Don’t be a networking parasite! (This article isn’t aimed toward writers specifically, but it’s certainly relevant for us.)
  • Nearly a year after Patrick Modiano was named Nobel literature laureate, more of his work is available to readers in English. Alexandra Schwartz provides a terrific overview of some highlights, and Modiano’s oeuvre, in The New Yorker.
  • This week brought the news that Julie Schumacher has won the Thurber Prize for American Humor (for Dear Committee Members: A Novel). Since I have a weakness for smart comic novels, especially those about writers and/or academia, I loved this book, and I’m thrilled that it (and Schumacher) have won this prize. Julie Schumacher, if you’re reading this, congratulations!
  • Have a good weekend, everyone.
