Friday Finds for Writers

Treasure Chest
Writing-related resources, news, and reflections to enjoy over the weekend.

  • Very interesting craft-essay-type piece by Kevin Pickard, “Should Fiction Be Timeless? Pop Culture References in Contemporary Novels.” (Electric Lit)
  • Making the rounds this week: Jeannine Hall Gailey’s “The Amazing Disappearing Woman Writer” essay on The Rumpus. (One piece of information here that caught my interest: Gailey is working on a book, PR for Poets, for Two Sylvias Press.)
  • And on a related note: In “10 Over 75,” Bethanne Patrick reminds us of some “old and wise” authors whose work we’d do well to keep atop our tbr lists. (Literary Hub)
  • On the other end of the age spectrum: Jane Friedman offers excellent “writing advice for children and teens.”
  • And over on Book Riot, Claire Handscombe offers “99 Ways to Spread the Word About a Book You Love.”
  • Happy weekend, everyone.

Hi Erika, I enjoy your posts so much, thank you for everything.

That last link to 99 Ways is not working, it goes to the 10 Over 75 story. I would love to read the 99 Ways. I was planning to share it on the Main Street Rag page too. A little bit of thievery I hope you don’t mind! I shared your Monday Markets post last week.

      Thanks again!

Hi, Beth. Sorry about the link–it’s fixed now. And “thievery” is fine–so long as credit is given (links preferred!). Thanks very much.

    2. Hi Erika,

Fantastic wrap-up. Some super useful articles there.

Particularly thankful for being pointed to “writing advice for children and teens” by Jane Friedman – this was exactly what I needed today.

      Thanks Erika!

      Cheers,

      Sarah
