Midweek Notes from a Practicing Writer

root-rescueNewly Published Poem

Happy to share my latest published poem, “Self-Portrait with Root Rescue™,” which Silver Birch Press published last week as part of its “My Mane Memories” series.

As noted beneath the poem, this one emerged from a prompt I discovered last April during National Poetry Month. I’d been trying to place it for several months when I learned about the themed call from Silver Birch Press. (I’d also read it aloud a couple of times in public, where it was well received.)

Special Delivery

Look what arrived in the mail yesterday! It’s a book featuring both a foreword and an entire chapter by my dear friend Deb Elbaum. (And it has been autographed.)

Thank you, Deb! And many congratulations!!!

Against Submission Fees

Karen Craigo has a great post this week on the subject of litmag submission fees. Give it a read.

And then, if you’re so inclined, take a look back on this similarly-themed post of mine from this blog’s archive.

I love your poem. I ought to consider this post a prompt, as I try to express my response to it: recognition of the clear and unfussy honesty in your writing, the humor, the compassion and the practical wit. And the strength. Above all the good writing. Congratulations and thank you. I enjoyed reading this very, very much.

Oh–thank YOU. This praise means so much to me. Truly.
