Monday Markets and Jobs for Writers

dollar-sign-mdMonday brings the weekly batch of no-fee competitions/contests, paying submission calls, and jobs for those of us who write (especially those of us who write fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction).

  • Slice magazine has re-opened for submissions. “The current reading period runs from June 1 – August 1. All submissions during that time will be considered for Issue 20. The theme for this issue is ‘Corporeal.’ We offer all contributors of Slice a monetary award for their work ($250 for stories and essays and $75 for poems).”
  • Persistent Visions is looking for fresh fiction that skirts the edges of reality, pushes the boundaries of people we could become, and has an updated, innovative perspective on the people we will become. We’re looking for edgy, raw, unconventional, difficult, speculative fiction stories. You can pluck our heartstrings, but make it a tune we’ve never heard before. (Thanks to Lawrence Schimel for alerting us to this.)
  • Poets & Writers is advertising several fellowship opportunities, each with a June 20 application deadline.
  • “Icarus Films, a leading distributor of documentary films, is hiring a Publicity & Marketing Associate. The position is 20-30 hours per week at our office in Brooklyn Heights.”
  • “The University of Memphis seeks applications for a one-year position as visiting Assistant Professor in fiction writing with a secondary strength in creative nonfiction, to join a dynamic MFA and undergraduate creative writing program.”
  • “The MFA Program in Creative Writing welcomes the submission of resumes by creativewriting faculty in fiction, poetry, & creative nonfiction. Over the next few years we anticipate the possibility of hiring additional visiting faculty to teach in the Carlow University low-residency MFA program. Minimum requirements include book publication in fiction, poetry, or creative nonfiction, a graduate degree, and experience teaching creative writing atthe college and/or graduate levels. We also look for experience teaching in intensive residencies and in online discussion forums, and evident commitment to cultural diversity and educational equity. Send cv & coverletter to: Kevin Haworth, Director, MFA in Creative Writing, Carlow University, khaworthATcarlowDOTedu.” NB: There is no posted advertisement for this announcement.
