Midweek Notes from a Practicing Writer

New Poem in Moment Magazine

A definite highlight of the past week: seeing my poem “Abel’s Brother Anticipates Lady Macbeth: A Soliloquy” in the pages of the July-August issue of Moment magazine.

MomentPoem

A couple of comments. First, this is one of many poems to have emerged from my engagement—starting about two years ago—in a combination Jewish text-study and writing-workshop practice. And second, this is my third poem to be be published in Moment (the first, “Pünktlichkeit,” appeared exactly six years ago, in the July-August 2010 issue.

I’ve been a fan of—and subscriber to—Moment magazine for years. So it’s especially meaningful to see my work in its pages.

A Few Words About Facebook

If you’re a follower of the Erika Dreifus Author page on Facebook, I thank you!

And I have one more favor to ask.

A little birdie has told me that Facebook is making it more difficult for you to see the page’s posts. You can help ensure that the posts indeed reach you. When you’re on the Erika Dreifus Author page, please hover over “Liked.” Under “In Your News Feed,” click “See First.” That should facilitate each post’s appearance on your feed.

Thanks again!

I’m so glad you mentioned about the Facebook page because it turned out I had not even liked that page, although we’d been friends (on your personal page?) for some time. I always enjoy your updates. Keep up the good work!

Mazel tov on the publication! I would love to hear more about the combination Jewish text-study and writing-workshop practice that you mentioned.

Thanks, Valeria. I’ve written about it from time to time on the blog. Here’s one example: https://edreifus.wpengine.com/2015/10/midweek-notes-from-a-practicing-writer-34/. And here’s another: https://edreifus.wpengine.com/2014/11/wednesdays-work-in-progress-midrash-on-happiness/.

    Cool poem.

  4. Mazel tov! A very terse poem, which does a good job of mirror referencing. The motive for evil is raised as a subtle sub-text, but wisely not made explicit or direct. And publication in Moment is – momentous. From strength to strength.

Thank you so much, Laurie & David.
