Monday Markets and Jobs for Writers
Monday brings the weekly batch of no-fee competitions/contests, paying submission calls, and jobs for those of us who write (especially those of us who write fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction).
Current poetry contest from CHA: An Asian Literary Journal seeks work on the theme of “addiction.” You can submit up to two unpublished poems (maximum 80 lines each). Each poet can submit up to two poems (no more than 80 lines long each). No entry fee. Prizes: “First: HK$500, Second: HK$300, Third: HK$150, Highly Commended (up to 5): HK$100 each. (Payable through Paypal.) All winning poems (including the highly recommended ones) will receive first publication in a special section in Issue 33 of Cha, due out in September 2016.” Deadline is August 1, 2016.
The July edition of Cathy’s Comps and Calls has been posted. Cathy Bryant features there no-fee opportunities, but not all of them pay cash, so be sure to read carefully for details (and, of course, to click through to the original listings themselves).

Topics of interest include but not limited to: intersection of Judaism and feminism; personal essays on topics such as sexual orientation, body image, motherhood, dating; your take on how current events (in Israel/ US/ elsewhere), the elections, SCOTUS relate to Jewish women. Posts don’t necessarily have to have a strong Jewish component. Pay is $100 and length is flexible but usually around 700-800 words. Email dolsten(at)forward(dot)com with submissions/ideas.
