Thursday’s Pre-Publication Post: Progress!

Back in June I wrote here about the necessary task of arranging events to help readers meet and get to know my soon-to-be-published short story collection, Quiet Americans. Lots of you shared sage advice in comments (and via backchannel), and I remain very grateful for that.

I’m happy to report that within the past week, I’ve scheduled the first post-publication event! I don’t want to say too much about it quite yet, because we’re still ironing out a couple of details, and I’m neurotic enough to think that if I start promoting this before the venue does it will somehow all fall apart, but suffice to say that if you’re going to be in D.C. area around the time of the Association of Writers & Writing Programs Conference in early February, you should consider yourself invited to a Sunday afternoon event (February 6)! More details to come.

  1. This is so exciting, Erika! I’m so happy for you.
I attended the AWP conference in Jan/Feb 08 in NYC. I really enjoyed that conference. I was lucky enough to chat with Frank McCourt and Billy Collins, whom I had the pleasure of meeting at the Southampton Writers Conference in ’06 & ’07 (and I attended Frank’s memoir writing workshop).
I haven’t thought about attending the DC one…although Robert Swartwood will be having a panel on Hint Fiction (the book he edited, W.W. Norton’s Hint Fiction: An Anthology of Stories in 25 Words or Fewer ~ of which I am so fortunate to have a story included ~ comes out 11/1/10), and that would be fun to attend.
I’m sure you will have a fantastic time in DC. Your event sounds intriguing!
    Best wishes!

Erika that is great news! I will be at AWP, with a few fellow alums from Stonecoast, and I will plan to attend your event. It will be great to meet you. Just last night, my Craft & Critique participants were asking how one goes about entering the confusing sea of submissions, and of course, we discussed useful sources and your site came up. So, I hope that they took my advice
    and subcribed.
Every morning, my routine now is to make my coffee and sit down to read your post. I miss it on the weekends! Anyway, best of luck and hope to have a chance to say hello at AWP.

  3. Great news, Erika. We will both, hopefully, be attending AWP. If we’re still in Washington Sunday afternoon we will be there.

  5. Dear Erika,
