Thursday’s Post-Publication Post: The Kindle Version Is Here! And I’m Giving Two Copies Away!

Was it only two weeks ago that I was blogging about the Quiet Americans ebook conversion? That post generated so many helpful comments–thank you again! (Please click here to see the price that was ultimately selected.)

Yes, just two weeks later, the Kindle version of Quiet Americans is complete and available! And to celebrate, I’m going to offer two “gift” copies to you, dear readers.

To enter this giveaway, please comment below, with a suggestion or piece of advice to help me promote this new version of the book. (Promoting a print book is something I think I can do; I’m less confident about the promoting the ebook.)

The trusty random number generator will select our two winners, but please don’t let that stop you from offering the very best advice you can! You can comment right up to 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2011.

Good luck, and thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions. I truly appreciate them!

Use all the e-mail addressses & website addresses you collect …. and see if you can’t barter some promotional opportunities … there are a zillion book bloggers out there who cater to a zillion of us readers.

Also, be sure to participate in JBC this May …. we’ve met lots of great writers for our local Jewish Book Festival there … though short stories can be a hard sell.

Also, you might consider selling a story or two as “standalone” purchases via Amazon … think they max out at $2.99 and that might be a good way for people to “sample” the book.

    Best of luck,
    Ellen

On my ride to your comment box, two back-to-back prose bumps got me so distracted that I forgot what I originally intented to suggest to you on arrival.

    1) A pothole in the pavement:
“(Promoting a print book is something I think I can do; I’m less confident about the promoting the ebook.)”

    2) The sudden rough switch to editorial “we/our” after normal “you & I”:
“The trusty random number generator will select our two winners, but please don’t let that stop you from offering the very best advice you can!”

Does this count as promotional advice? Perhaps not. Even if I’m disqualified, however, I wish you luck in return (and I mean this sincerely, even if I can’t summon up a return exclamation mark just now). I will re-enter your contest with new material if somebody “gifts” me a Kindle in the next seven days.

I just wanted to comment and say I’ve been following your blog for about a year now and I actually purchased the e-book yesterday evening! I’m enjoying it a lot and am already a quarter of the way through – thanks Kindle for tracking what percentage I’ve read :). And thank you for making it available as an e-book!

  4. Erika Jeffers says:

hmmm…i think ellen made some excellent suggestions…my immediately response is to email everyone who know with information and a link to the e-book version.

  5. Adrienne says:

This suggestion is easy and perhaps obvious, but it seems to work: include information about the ebook version (Now available on Kindle!…) everywhere your name, newsletter and marketing information about the print book appears. And, make sure your Mac-based readers know that Amazon is now giving free software so that Macs can “read” Kindle ebooks.

I thought the stand alone chapter idea was good, but this is all new to me too. Good luck.

  7. Way to go!

I’m getting ready to release an ebook also, and am in full planning mode — from covers to conversion to marketing . . . One of the things I’m working on is planning a blog tour: offering myself for Q&As, guest posts and podcast interviews on other people’s websites. If you don’t already have that in the works, that would be something to consider — a full book tour without ever having to leave your desk.

If you’d like, we can trade guest posts on each other’s blogs, to get the book tour ball rolling . . . ?

    1. Erika Dreifus says:

Thanks, Jennifer, and congrats on your ebook’s release, too.

I’ve only recently finished a blog tour for the print edition, and I’m not sure I’m ready to embark on that all over again right now. But I agree–it’s a great idea.

      Good luck w/your tour!

Thank you all for participating and for sharing your suggestions. (Special thanks to Jenny for her loyalty to the blog and her kind words about the book!) I’m grateful!

And now, I’m happy to announce that the random number generator has selected ERIKA JEFFERS (#4) and ADRIENNE (#5) as the lucky winners. Please email me with your preferred email addresses so that I can get Quiet Americans to you pronto! Congratulations!
