Friday Finds for Writers

Treasure ChestWriting-related resources, news, and reflections to enjoy over the weekend.

  • Ron Charles reports on changes afoot at Electric Literature.
  • Readers of (and potential writers for) Brain, Child will surely appreciate Lisa Romeo’s Q&A with editor/publisher Marcelle Soviero.
  • Travel vicariously via Kevin Haworth’s account of a three-week residency at Grin City in Grinnell, Iowa.
  • Entering an MFA program anytime soon? You might want to consider veteran professor John Vanderslice’s advice for incoming students.
  • By now, you’ve surely heard about the passing of Maya Angelou. There’s of course been an outpouring online; I’m hoping to take some time this weekend to read through this 1990 Paris Review interview with Angelou (conducted by George Plimpton), which I found via Twitter (thanks, @HungerMtn). And I’d like to revisit my copy of Angelou’s Complete Collected Poems as well.
  • Have a good weekend, everyone. I’ve got an extra-busy one coming up, but I promise to get the new (June) issue of The Practicing Writer out to subscribers before it’s over.

      Thanks for the shout-out, Erika!
FYI – for your readers who are interested, at the Brain, Child editor interview, there’s a giveaway afoot for a one year subscription to the print magazine, plus a bundle of recent issues.

Thanks so much for pointing that out, Lisa.
