Sunday Sentence

In which I participate in David Abrams’s “Sunday Sentence” project, sharing the best sentence I’ve read during the past week, “out of context and without commentary.”

“It is terrible to carry a doomed child beneath your heart.”

Erika, I’m kind of stunned by this, and very grateful. It was such a long time ago, yet so fresh, sometimes, in my memory. Thank you so much. Out of all the sentences in a week, I don’t even know what else to say.

Kate, I’m so glad that you found your way here. Admittedly, there are a LOT of wonderful sentences in that book–it’s a remarkable anthology. We so often hear of anthologies that are “uneven,” but this one’s essays are uniformly superb. Thank you so much for sharing yours.
