Some writerly-readerly highlights from the past week:
Met Gary Shteyngart! At a conversation between Sasha Senderovich and him that took place at Baruch College of The City University of New York.
Received Missouri Review contributor copies including my most recent review-essay.
Spent a quality weekend morning drinking coffee & talking writing with a friend.
Received another rejection for my aforementioned humor piece.
Continued to submit my aforementioned humor piece.
Received an invitation to give a talk to writers on the subject of writing contests.
Finished reading a remarkable novel.
Put some finishing touches on the November issue of The Practicing Writer.
Not a whole lot of actual writing there, alas. (I could enumerate some of my “day job” activities, including “writing a new blog post,” but I’ve opted not to go into detail re: that work.)
How about you and your week?
Hello Erika,
The best thing about my week so far was picking up an anthology of war writing (fiction) by American authors in a secondhand book store here in Tokyo. There is much to enjoy in the selection and I’ve read two brilliant pieces that were new to me: “A Short Wait Between Trains” by Robert McLaughlin (which is the anthology’s title story) and “The Burning” by Eudora Welty.
Not this week, strictly speaking, but I had a bit of flash fiction put out on the web last Thursday. (http://thestoryshack.com/drama-stories/clive-collins-that-good-night/)
Thursday is within the last week, Clive! And thank you for sharing that intriguing story!
Hi, Erica,
This week has been busy with final edits and taking some additional photos for a children’s book. After much thought, I finally decided to self publish it and met with a representative from Shire’s Press last week. “Practicing Writing” has been instrumental in guiding me through the writing and publishing process and I just wanted to offer a big ” Thanks” to you and everyone who offered invaluable advice to this novice through PW.
Many congratulations to you, Clare!
