Friday Finds for Writers

Treasure Chest
Writing-related resources, news, and reflections to enjoy over the weekend. (NB: Since I will be traveling for work over the next several days, this MAY be the last post you see until late next week. Apologies in advance!)

  • From John Vanderslice: an excellent—if slightly depressing—post on “the phenomenon of celebrity fiction.”
  • In this piece for The Good Men Project, Kathryn Streeter extends the discussion of “oversharing” in one’s writing — and how to avoid such pitfalls in the first place.
  • Via The Humber Literary Review: Canada’s National Post Books editor Emily Keeler and novelist Steven Galloway talk about book reviews.
  • This (“longform”) short story on Tablet is, in a word, brilliant. By Sam Apple, it is titled “The Butcher of Desire; or Imagining Philip Roth.” I hope to be able to devote a full, semi-thoughtful blog post on My Machberet to it. We shall see. In the meantime, I highly recommend it to you.
  • Finally—for your weekend reading pleasure, some content from the July/August issue of Poets & Writers magazine is now available online.
  • Wishing everyone a peaceful weekend.
