Friday Finds for Writers

Treasure Chest
Writing-related resources, news, and reflections to enjoy over the weekend.

  • Truly a must-read: Annie Neugebauer’s latest for Writer Unboxed, on “the line between self-promotion and spam.”
  • How did “creative nonfiction” come to be called “creative nonfiction” in the first place? Dinty W. Moore explores.
  • My cup of tea: reflections on the meaning of “practice” for writers. By Ben Berman, for the Grub Street blog.
  • Something I’ve heard freelancers (especially new freelancers) ask about–how to locate editors’ email addresses. Carol Tice and Linda Formichelli have delineated seven ways to do so.
  • Finally, the latest newsletter from Fig Tree Books (edited by yours truly) contains a special notice for agents and writers (including you, my dear book reviewers!).
  • Happy weekend, everyone!

    1. D.W. Moore’s article is a fun read about the origins of the Creative Non-Fiction term.

But, I have yet to see anything resembling a comprehensive definition of the term. Or the set of rules for the form that cause so much howling when they are supposedly broken.
