Friday Finds for Writers

Treasure Chest
Writing-related resources, news, and reflections to enjoy over the weekend.

  • Terrific piece over on the Brevity blog by Laurie Hertzel, on memoirists’ “ownership” of their stories–and the various ways to write about people who might not want to be written about.
  • Big profile of Los Angeles Review of Books and its founder, Tom Lutz.
  • Also from the world of book reviews: Pamela Paul recently listed and answered some common questions she receives as editor of The New York Times Book Review. (Maybe you have more questions for her? If so, she seems open to receiving them.)
  • Useful hints on “Best Practices for Author Facebook Pages and Groups”, by Kirsten Oliphant on Jane Friedman’s blog. (I’m finding this post helpful as I continue to administer the Fig Tree Books Facebook page along with my own author page.)
  • Also potential useful for social-media purposes (not to mention sheer creative inspiration): the NYPL’s enhanced public domain collections.
  • Have a great weekend! PS: I’ll be traveling for the next few days; comment moderation and response will resume after my return.

    1. I didn’t know about the NYPL digital collection available online. I’ve only glanced at it so far, but it looks like a great resource for people like me writing an historical novel. Thanks so much for this, Erika.

        I’m so glad, Janet!
