Midweek Notes from a Practicing Writer
All Things Considered
On balance, a good week, notification-wise. Yes, there have been some rejections. But the week also brought a poetry acceptance (that poem will be out mid-month, and I’ll be sure to share it). And, I was also asked to contribute a poem to a site (I’ll share that in due course, too). So all of that is very cheering.
Meantime, I did send in my March Poetry Has Value update/stats, so I expect that you’ll be able to see that soon.
What I’m Reading
I’m about halfway through Boris Fishman’s new novel. (I’d have finished it already, if a spring cold hadn’t felled me and kept me asleep much of the weekend).
Unsurprisingly, it’s a very good read.
I’d also like to point you to even-newer work by Boris, written in tribute to Jim Harrison. It seems that Boris can write poetry remarkably well, too.
(I’m also about halfway through the second print issue of Tablet magazine. Again, I should probably have made my way through it entirely by now. But even beyond the cold I’ve just been slowed down by various to-do items and tasks this week.)
Next Up
Among remaining to-do items and tasks on my agenda: working on a panel proposal for the next (2017) Association of Writers and Writing Programs conference. Please wish me luck! Proposals are due in a few weeks. (And is it just me, or is time going by ever more quickly?)
Just wanted to pop in and say I so enjoy your posts and appreciate how consistently you publish them; they are always encouraging and informative. Thank you!
Thank you so much, Valorie!
