Friday Finds for Writers

Treasure Chest
Writing-related resources, news, and reflections to enjoy over the weekend.

  • In case you were living under a rock yesterday (or perhaps just offline): Bob Dylan has been named the latest Nobel literature laureate. The Washington Post‘s Ron Charles’s first reaction to the announcement may have been “That’s the strangest pronunciation of ‘Don DeLillo’ I’ve ever heard.” He asked a number of prominent poets for their thoughts on the choice and shared those comments in this piece.
  • When, if ever, should you write for “exposure” (without payment)? Jane Friedman weighs in.
  • The Atlantic has a new Editor-in-Chief: Jeffrey Goldberg.
  • Selected content from the November/December of Poets & Writers magazine is now online. This includes my own letter responding to the previous issue’s “Dear President” feature (which I have now made available in its original, formatted version).
  • Don’t forget that Fridays bring another set of links, focused on matters of primarily Jewish literary interest, over on My Machberet.
  • Have a wonderful weekend.

Wow, Erika! So glad to hear your response piece on “Dear President” is in P&W. That is fantastic! So glad to hear that! I look forward to reading it myself and have been anxiously awaiting the news.
