Monday brings the weekly batch of no-fee, paying listings of competitions, contests, and calls for submissions—plus jobs for those of us who write (especially those of us who write fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction).

  • Sutra Press is an independent micro-press that publishes chapbooks that serve to change our lives and wake us up.” Currently open to manuscripts from 12-32 pages. Pays: $200. Deadline: April 30, 2017 (via FlashFictionFlash).
  • Electric Literature is open to submissions of personal and critical essays, “as well as humor that reflects on the world of reading, writing, literature, and storytelling in all its forms. We’re particularly interested in pieces that examine the intersection of the literary world and other creative disciplines: film, fine art, music, video games, architecture — you name it.” Pays: $50. Deadline: May 1, 2017.
  • “The Arts Writers grant supports writers whose work addresses contemporary visual art. The program issues awards directly to individual authors for articles, blogs, books, new and alternative media, and short-form writing projects. We support a broad spectrum of writing on contemporary visual art, from general-audience criticism to academic scholarship.” No application fee. Deadline: May 17, 2017.
  • “One of Manhattan’s most prominent and historic performing arts centers is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, and highly skilled individual with experience in writing, editing, interviewing, and proofreading. The Editorial Associate will be an integral part of City Center’s marketing department, creating original written content across all platforms that promotes upcoming programming to potential patrons while simultaneously offering audiences context for the works being presented.
