Midweek Notes from a Practicing Writer
Accountability: Pass It On
Remember when I told you last week that I was struggling with an essay? And that maybe if I promised all of you to have a draft finished in time to report it this week, that would happen?
Guess what? IT DID.
Accountability. It works! (But before I get too carried away—I have yet to hear back from an editor who had expressed interest in the initial idea. I’m sure the essay still needs work. The question is: how much/what kind?)
Mazal Tov
This Friday (September 1) will mark the official launch of Rabbi Shai Held’s The Heart of Torah: Essays on the Weekly Torah Portion. I’ve been proud to complement the in-house publicity efforts for this work, and I want to wish the author a hearty congratulatory Mazal Tov as the book formally meets readers. (Speaking of—check out the tour schedule.)
Emergency Resources
Last, but definitely not least: It’s hard not to be thinking about what’s been going on in Texas.
It has been a very long time since I updated the lis of emergency resources (including grants) for writers that I assembled more than a decade ago. So for now, I’m going to point you to this much more recent article by Lisa McGreevy. I hope that no one who is reading this needs it. But writers live in Texas, too.
Glad you got your draft done. (My new computer, which I had been procrastinating about ordering, arrives today.)
I was hoping that you’d update us, too! So glad we both lived up to our promises. Enjoy your new computer!
