Now It Can Be Told

Oh, what a week it has been. Lots of good things have happened. But the absolute highlight has to be the days I spent in Rhinebeck, New York, as one of the co-organizers of an inaugural retreat for Jewish women writers. (That’s where I was heading last week when I warned you that I’d be away from this blog for a few days.)

Under the title of “Achayot” (the Hebrew word for “Sisterhood”), 16 of us gathered to read, write, pray, drink, dine, and discuss. One evening, we left our conference center for an off-site event—literally a three-minute walk away—at the lovely Oblong Books & Music store. (In addition to featuring a few of our participants as readers for an event in their store, Oblong graciously sold other books by Achayot authors that evening, too.)

The feedback is still coming in, so we’re not sure quite yet what will happen after this first gathering. But my co-organizers and I are so happy to have made it happen, and so grateful to everyone who took part.

Unveiling “Veiled Meanings” in Hadassah Magazine

A couple of weeks ago, I attended a press preview for a new exhibition at The Jewish Museum here in New York.

And now, the resulting article, “Custom Made: Jewish Fashion from The Israel Museum in New York,” is up on the Hadassah Magazine website.

Presenting Leon Wiener Dow and The Going: A Meditation of Jewish Law

Now that it’s Jewish Book Month (November 12-December 12 this year), I’m delighted to introduce you to my newest book-publicity client: Leon Wiener Dow, the author of The Going, which will be published by Palgrave Macmillan next month.

Leon, who grew up in Houston, currently works as a research fellow and a member of the faculty at the Shalom Hartman Institute, as well as Rabbi and Educational Director of the Hevruta Gap-Year program there. He lives in Jerusalem.
