Friday Finds for Writers

Writing-related resources, news, and reflections to peruse over the weekend.

  • “What Pauses Can Do for a Narrative”: insights from Lee Martin.
  • A recent conversation with a writer-friend made Allison K. Williams’s post on writing groups all the more interesting to me.
  • Not a happy read, but an important one: Adrienne Miller’s “All Men, All the Time: A Former Literary Editor Remembers the World Before #MeToo.”
  • Changes are afoot for the big industry event known as BookExpo.
  • And remember: If it’s Friday, you’ll find a fresh set of #JewLit links over on My Machberet.
  • Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.

Many many years ago, Adrienne Miller wrote me one of the nicest rejection letters I have ever gotten and encouraged me to submit to Esquire again. Her anthology–Esquire’s Big Book of Fiction–is full of wonderful stories. I don’t read Esquire for the fiction anymore (I do read Charles Pierce), but when she was fiction editor, I read it all the time. Thank you for sharing this important story.
