Midweek Notes from a Practicing Writer

Latest Column

As you may recall, since last September I’ve been writing a “View from the USA” column for the UK’s Jewish Chronicle. The latest installment went live on Friday.

With a focus on journalist Andrea Mitchell, it examines a kind of professional malpractice that I see occurring too often. I’d be less exercised if Mitchell—and others—could manage to acknowledge the problem and perhaps even apologize. But that seems to be too much to hope for.

You can read the column here.

Surprise, Surprise

Sometimes, Talkwalker alerts yield some lovely surprises. That’s how I discovered this event.

A local calendar listing featuring a group discussion of the opening story from QUIET AMERICANS.

A couple of notes:

First, if you aren’t familiar with Talkwalker alerts, I recommend them as a (free!) supplement to the more familiar Google alerts that you may already be using. I maintain Talkwalker alerts for my PR clients and recommend that they do the same for themselves.

And second, for anyone who may be interested in discussing “For Services Rendered” or any of the stories in Quiet Americans, I’ve got a webpage for you!

Group Writing Project

But perhaps the most significant writing I did this past week consists of a few phrases printed on a card and mailed out yesterday. I’m not alone in this project. Perhaps you’ll want to join in, too.

Thank you, David. That means a lot to me.

Thanks, Erika, for addressing this. Andrea Mitchell and NBC seem wholeheartedly committed to the dark side, for many reasons, where Israel is concerned, but your clarification, and the truth, might open someone’s eyes. Maybe even Ms. Mitchell’s.

Well-written, rational, concise and true. Good job Erika.

Well, I did write it with the hope that it could open some eyes. Thank you, Judy.
