Midweek Notes from a Practicing Writer

Three quick things:

1. A highlight of this past week was my trip out to the ‘burbs to join in the celebration for my friend (and client) Lisa Romeo and her debut memoir Starting with Goodbye at The Writer’s Circle in Summit, New Jersey. The place was packed; the refreshments delicious (best cannoli I’ve ever tasted!); and the entire event was suffused with love and admiration for Lisa and her story.

As if that weren’t enough, there’s been a flurry of book activity, including a warm reception from Publishers Weekly and an array of interviews and features (such as a post in which Lisa divulges nine tips for writing memoir).

2. If you’ve somehow missed my “evangelizing” for Yossi Klein Halevi’s latest book (Letters to My Palestinian Neighbor), you’ll find some thoughts gathered over on my other blog.

3. I’m a busy bee this week, with an unexpected (but most welcome!) freelance article due on Friday, and plenty of other items on my to-do list. It’s all good! Hope the same goes for all of you!

More power to your elbow and grist to your mill, Erika. My day was brightened by the news that a friend, Richard Lloyd Parry, won the Rathbones Folio Prize with his book Ghosts of the Tsunami. I’m so pleased for him. Another friend, Richard Beard, missed out last night but gets a second chance of glory as his book The Day Went Missing is shortlisted for the James Tait Black Memorial Prize.

      That’s exciting news!
