Pre-Shabbat Jewish Literary Links

Every Friday My Machberet presents an array of Jewish-interest links, primarily of the literary variety.

  • My weekend reading includes an Isaac Babel story, translated by Maxim D. Shrayer.
  • Also tbr: a newly available story by Isaac Bashevis Singer (translated by the author).
  • Mazal tov to the finalists of the 2018 Sami Rohr Prize for Jewish Literature.
  • “Are you a Jewish college student interested in journalism? Apply to attend the New Voices Magazine’s National Jewish Student Journalism Conference in New York City on May 13-14, 2018.” NB: Not sure how long applications will remain open; there is a fee to attend.
  • And next month, across the country, there’s another great event planned that I wish I could attend: “Tapestries of Shadow and Light: Three Writers and the Legacy of the Holocaust.” (The three writers in question are Rachel Hall, Elizabeth Rosner, and Hilary Zaid.) The event will take place at the Oakland Public Library.
  • Shabbat shalom!
