Micro-publisher Raised Voice Press is currently open for fee-free submissions of “complete creative nonfiction manuscripts between 100-250 pages from authors located in the United States writing in English.” Deadline: December 31, 2018. (Found this one via CRWROPPS-B.)
“The GroundTruth Project is pleased to begin accepting applications for the 2019 James W. Foley Middle East Fellowship. This $10,000 fellowship supports a freelance journalist who is seeking to report stories in the Middle East that are under-covered by mainstream media. As part of the grant, the journalist will receive a stipend and a budget that will include relevant risk assessment and Hostile Environment and First Aid Training as well as insurance and reporting expenses in the field.” Deadline: January 11, 2019.
For “creative writers with a Pittsburgh connection” (and who are able to attend the events in Pittsburgh): The Creative Nonfiction Writers Fellowship features an “advanced workshop series” and confers a $1,000 stipend upon completion. Deadline: January 14, 2019.
“PBS Digital Studios (PBSDS) is looking for a writer for an upcoming show on Black American history and culture, launching in 2019. This weekly, scripted, hosted series is part cultural critique, part talk show, and part history lesson. You’ll be writing entertaining and educational scripts that feature lesser known Black history topics that relate to modern experiences and provide fresh takes on prominent themes in Black culture. This is a remote position.”
“Granite Media is seeking a staff writer to write and produce travel stories for Far & Wide. We are looking for a world savvy, creative travel writer who can develop travel tips and insightful stories. The staff writer will be expected to produce daily stories. The writer will become the lead byline on the site, complementing other freelance written articles. The writer should be an experienced self-starter who will pitch stories and take assignments, write sharp headlines and clean copy, format stories and handle photo selection. The writer will work closely with Far & Wide’s senior editor. This staff role is a remote, 40-hour a week position with benefits. USA candidates only. Working hours will mostly align with pacific coast time.”
In Iowa, “the Cornell College Center for the Literary Arts seeks a Distinguished Visiting Writer to teach a topics-based course in Young Adult Fiction. Course topics related to fantasy or science fiction are especially welcome. The visiting writer will teach one three-and-a-half-week term in the academic year 2019–20; exact term schedule will be negotiated….During the teaching term, the visiting writer will also give a public reading at the Center for the Literary Arts. The stipend is $5,000, and on-campus housing can be provided.”
In California, “Stanford University is seeking a full-time Lecturer for the Stanford Storytelling Project, an arts program within the Program in Writing and Rhetoric (PWR) in the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE). This will be a two year fixed-term appointment beginning August 1, 2019 – July 31, 2021, with the possibility of re-appointment. The Stanford Storytelling Project (SSP) is an arts program that teaches students how to use story craft and practices to create personal and social change. The program sponsors courses, workshops, grants, and a live event series that give students an opportunity to appreciate the way stories work, work on us, and can work for us. SSP explores all forms of stories, from myth to memoir, in all kinds of media, from print to performance, and produces two podcasts that feature the research and creative work of the Stanford community. The SSP Lecturer will offer instruction in oral, audio, and/or multimedia storytelling craft in a variety of settings across the university and will support the activities and initiatives of SSP.”
“The Department of English at Middle Tennessee State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English with specialties in Fiction Creative Writing and Latino Literature.”
In South Carolina, “The Department of English and Modern Languages at Francis Marion University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of English whose primary responsibilities will include teaching creative writing (primary emphasis on poetry, secondary interest in fiction writing) as well as first-year composition and introductory literature surveys. Candidates should have experience in and commitment to teaching first-year composition. Experience with digital editing and publishing considered a plus.”
