#SundaySentence
Every weekend I participate in David Abrams’s “#SundaySentence” project, sharing the best sentence I’ve read during the past week, “out of context and without commentary.”
As the grapefruit-pink sun slipped behind the Catalina Mountains, we roamed our elementary-school playground and pumped our legs on the swings, recalling our fourth-grade class trip to Tombstone and the annual Scholastic Book Fair, held in the cafeteria.

Do you select a sentence based on how lovely the phrasing is? That it evokes a memory? That it carries some clever observation or important truth? Because you had to re-read it to make sense of it or to savor it again? Does it have to be grammatical? Do you have several sentences you set aside each week that you’ve come across and choose one?
You see I’m fascinated by this idea. I realize now that I sometimes copy given sentences into my journal because I like them for any of the above reasons.
All of the above and more! Really, what makes me choose a sentence varies. I’m not systematic enough to keep a list each week, though. My guess is that everyone who participates in the project has a different way of going about it.
