Each week in this space, Practicing Writing shares no-fee, paying markets for writers of fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction: competitions, contests, and calls for submissions. These weekly posts complement monthly issues of The Practicing Writer newsletter, where you’ll always find more listings, none of them limiting eligibility to residents of a single municipality, state, or province. (But this blog does share those more localized opportunities, including jobs.)

• ICYMI: The August issue of The Practicing Writer 2.0 went out to subscribers on Friday. It’s packed with 40+ fee-free and paying opportunities that you’ll want to check out, if you haven’t yet done so.
• As mentioned in that newsletter, I’ve recently updated this website’s list of publications where you might wish to send flash nonfiction/micro-essays. (Note, however, that this list is NOT limited to fee-free and paying venues, although I’ve done my best to indicate what you can expect regarding fees/payment in each case.)
• Newly discovered: “The Razor is a literary magazine produced by Gotham Writers Workshop. We publish two pieces each month—one fiction, one nonfiction.” Pays: $100. (Thanks to @AlannaSchubach for making sure that I caught this!)
• Perennial Press is looking for “speculative poetry and short fiction with monstrous, mythical, or mechanical arthropods for our upcoming Arthropoda anthology! The call is open to original fiction and reprints, poetry and short fiction up to 45 lines and 7,500 words respectively.” Pays: “$20 flat rate” and “either a print or PDF contributor copy.” Deadline: August 7. • Attention, Rhode Islanders: “The Robert and Margaret MacColl Johnson Fellowship Fund, established at the Rhode Island Foundation in 2003, provides up to three $25,000 artist fellowships each year, rotating among composers, writers, and visual artists on a three-year cycle.” And this year is YOUR year, writers! Deadline: August 9, 2021.
• Words Without Borders is advertising for an Education Fellow who “will work a part-time schedule of 20 hours per week for ten months starting in October 2021. This is a remote position; however, the fellow will be expected to be available during US eastern time working hours. This position pays $20–$22 per hour, DOE.”
• “The Paris Review is seeking an Assistant or Associate Editor to support the Senior Editor in creating the magazine’s online presence. The job involves discovering exceptional new writers, assigning and editing essays, columns, interviews, and shorter pieces, and making imaginative use of audio, video, and graphics. This is an opportunity to help shape the next chapter of The Paris Review. The position is based in New York City. Title and salary are commensurate with experience.” (Deadline: August 6.)
• In New York, Poets & Writers magazine is hiring an Assistant Editor and Poets & Writers, Inc., is hiring a Director of Programs and Partnerships.
• “The Department of English at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track professor in its MFA program to begin September 1, 2022. The successful candidate will teach Native American and Indigenous poetry courses, MFA workshops and seminars, and serve on MFA thesis committees.” 
• In Ohio, “the University of Toledo Department of English Language and Literature invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in Creative Writing.”
• In Wisconsin, Carroll University seeks an adjunct instructor to teach a poetry-writing course this fall.
