Toward the end of each week, the My Machberet blog presents a collection of links, drawn primarily from the world of Jewish books and writing.
- ICYMI: “Artists Against Antisemitism UK (AAAUK) was established in response to the experienced hostility towards Jews within the arts, culture and creative sector, following the 7th of October attack in Israel, and the subsequent military response in Gaza.”
- Another item that popped up while I was away: “Amazon changed course after declining to sell Testimonies Without Boundaries, Israel: October 7th 2023, a book about Hamas’ Oct. 7 massacre in southern Israel.”
- Shame on the Independent Publishers Caucus—especially the member presses who voted for this abysmal resolution. (Discovered via Publishers Weekly.)
- Looking ahead: an invitation from A Wider Bridge, an organization that “builds a strong relationship between the LGBTQ communities in North America and Israel”: “Jewish artists, creators and performers–Join us on Sunday July 28 at 1:00 PM ET to share what life has been like for our artist community post October 7. Allies welcome.”
- And although I could share another outrageous tale of antisemitism in the literary sphere, I’m going to pass on that for the moment—in part because I’m still waiting for more comprehensive reporting on the subject, and in part because I just really, really want to end with something (at least somewhat) more uplifting.
