Finds for Writers

Each week (typically Fridays), the Practicing Writing blog offers writing and publishing resources, news, and reflections to peruse over the weekend.
- Updated this week to account for the Los Angeles-area wildfires: “Emergency Grants and Resources for Writers”: bit.ly/EmergencyResourcesWriters.
- “As writers, it’s tempting to agonize over the best system, or try to write with the pattern of a writer we admire. But it doesn’t matter which method works best for you. All that matters is that you choose a project, write it, and ask for support.” (Original emphasis in this excerpt from yet another dose of sage advice from Allison K. Williams.)
- In the news this week: I don’t think that I’ve ever read anything by Neil Gaiman, but one of this week’s big stories, as described by Publishers Weekly, is “How Neil Gaiman’s Publishers Have Responded to the Sexual Misconduct Allegations.“ The fate of TikTok in the USA also appears to be a hot topic; here, again, I know little—I don’t even have a TikTok account. But you can learn more about the impending TikTok ban’s ramifications for the book-publishing industry from Kathleen Schmidt.
- Since we’re just past the mid-January mark, it’s worth a reminder that the January 2025 edition of The Practicing Writer 2.0 includes plenty of opportunity listings that remain open. And you might also want to make sure that you haven’t missed anything posted here on Practicing Writing over the past couple of Mondays, too.
- And over on My Machberet, there’s a fresh set of Jewish literary links.
Wishing everyone a good weekend.
