Toward the end of each week, the My Machberet blog presents a collection of links, drawn primarily from the world of Jewish books and writing.
- From Publishers Weekly: “Needed: Information on adult and children’s books publishing between Jan. 1 and April 20, 2025 that convey theology or religious rituals and traditions for the spring Christian and Jewish holy days. Please identify if the title is adult non-fiction or for children. Send a description of the content, a brief bio for the author, illustrator, ISBN, pub date, a jpg of cover art, and contact information for interviews” as per the linked instructions. Deadline: February 21 (TOMORROW!).
- In which, for the Jewish Women’s Archive blog, translator Mildred Faintly presents “Four Women [Who] Shaped Jewish Poetry.”
- A bit of news from my own desk: This week brought my annual royalty payment for Birthright: Poems, with a corresponding (albeit minuscule!) donation to Sefaria. Please remember that new-book purchases support my effort to support that project!
- “Natan and Jewish Book Council are thrilled to announce the Winter 2025 Natan Notable Book: 10/7: 100 Human Stories by Lee Yaron (St. Martin’s Press, 2024).”
- Finally, as I prepare this post so it can go live early tomorrow (Thursday) morning: I know I am not alone in dreading tomorrow. While we rage, and grieve, and then go on doing whatever we can to offer support and continue to advocate for the return of all of the hostages, I want to take a moment to thank Judith Hannan and Richard Jeffrey Newman, the first two letter-writers cited in the newly-available March-April issue of Poets & Writers magazine. Whether you’re familiar with my own correspondence with that venue or not, I think you’ll see why I’m grateful. (As for the third letter, which is a sort of repetition of the first two of the previous issue’s letter-writers—well, again, what I’ve linked to from my archive is, I think, itself a response to that.)
May it be a Shabbat shalom, with the smooth, safe release of six more hostages on Saturday, and may every hostage be liberated soon.
