Every weekend I participate in David Abrams’s “#SundaySentence” project, sharing the best sentence I’ve read during the past week, “out of context and without commentary.”
Despite the inheritance of loss, Eric’s childhood gleamed with moments of delight: summoning birds with breadcrumbs; riding imaginary camels across the family’s furniture; and painting a glass window for Nelly Sachs, whose letters to the Celans were filled with grandmotherly affection for “the wide-eyed enchanted child.”
