Monday Markets for Writers

Monday brings the weekly batch of no-fee competitions/contests, paying submission calls, and jobs for those of us who write (especially those of us who write fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction).

  • The November issue of The Practicing Writer will go out by week’s end. As always, it will be filled with no-fee contest info and calls from paying publications. If you’re not yet a subscriber, it’s not too late to sign up!
  • Literary magazine upstreet is now open for submissions. “Payment, upon publication, will be between $50 and $150 for poems, and between $50 and $250 for short stories or essays.” (h/t @Duotrope)
  • Tips for landing your byline in Writer’s Digest (includes a link to the magazine’s updated guidelines).
  • From WritersWeekly.com: “We’re Out of Success Stories! Have a Freelance Success Story to share? We pay $40 on acceptance, non-exclusive electronic rights only. Success stories run around 300 words but we’re very flexible.”
  • “The State University of New York at Fredonia invites applications for a position in Creative Writing in a multigenre writing program at the tenure-track rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2014.”
  • “The University of South Dakota invites applications for a Lecturer to teach introductory creative writing, composition, and literature courses, and to serve as Managing Editor of South Dakota Review, a literary print journal published quarterly at The University of South Dakota since 1963.”
  • “The Department of English at the University of Iowa invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor with a specialization in Creative Nonfiction and a secondary interest in another area of creative writing, beginning fall semester 2014.”
