New Translation Competition from the Hadassah-Brandeis Institute
Just learned that the Hadassah-Brandeis Institute is launching an annual competition “to translate a book on a topic that deals in a signficant way with Jews and gender. The amount of money that will be awarded is contingent on the particular translation needs of the book. The award goes exclusively towards the translation costs. Applications are due by November 15, 2009, and decisions will be announced by February 15, 2010.” The committee “prefers books requiring translation from another language into English,” and books originally published at any time are eligible. Note also that the book “may be fiction, academic scholarship, or a ‘trade book’ with general public interest.” Note as well that HBI has the right of first refusal to publish the winning book’s translation in one of its three series, but winning the prize does not automatically mean that the HBI will publish the translated book.
