Every Friday My Machberet presents an array of Jewish-interest links, primarily of the literary variety.
Last week brought the latest Jewish Book Carnival, hosted for June by Deborah Kalb.
Also newly available: the summer 2018 issue of the Jewish Review of Books. Much of the content is paywalled, but free site registration allows you access to 3 items. And if I could read only three I’d select Allan Arkush’s excellent (if sad, and I’ve told him so) essay framed around Israel Zangwill; Ilana Kurshan’s brilliant review of Shai Held’s The Heart of Torah; and Jenna Weismann Joselit’s fascinating “Du Bois, the Warsaw Ghetto, and a Priestly Blessing.” (Freely available to all: Abraham Socher’s moving closing essay on the late Peter Berger.
On the Mosaic website, a terrific series on the poet Rahel (Rachel Bluwstein) continues with an essay by Sarah Rinder.
“If I could have only one poet, I’d choose Yehuda Amichai.” So writes Richard (Rick) Chess in a beautiful, occasionally heartbreaking post for the Good Letters blog.
And, in case you missed it: some recent updates about my own engagements with Jewish poetry.
Shabbat shalom.
