Friday Finds for Writers

Description: closed trunk and text label announcing, "Finds for Writers."
Writing-related resources, news, and reflections to peruse over the weekend.

  • National Poetry Month may be over, but there’s an extra-generous installment of Ruben Quesada’s “Poetry Today” column up on Chicago Review of Books. Featured this month: observations on process and production from Jericho Brown, Sara Borjas, Richard Blanco, Tina Cane, Chelsea Rathburn, Jim Whiteside, Jaswinder Bolina, Fred Schmalz, and Jess Williard.
  • “Why are Journalism Contests So Expensive to Enter?” Rose Eveleth poses that question for Nieman Reports.
  • This week brought an announcement from Rose Metal Press: “We are thrilled to announce that we will be publishing The Best of Brevity: Twenty Groundbreaking Years of Flash Nonfiction edited by Zoë Bossiere and Dinty W. Moore in Fall 2020! We have long been admirers of Brevity: A Journal of Concise Literary Nonfiction and the important work they have done to champion and bring more attention to the flash nonfiction form. And a best-of anthology of the amazing work regularly published by the journal has been long overdue. So we are honored to have the opportunity to partner with Brevity’s editors to make that anthology a reality!” (Check the list of contributors within the announcement for at least one familiar name.)
  • Something a little different: Juliet Grames writes about novels in which the narrator isn’t the main character (Publishers Weekly).
  • And over on the My Machberet blog, there’s a fresh batch of Jewish-lit links—including, this week, a couple of job announcements.
  • Have a great weekend!
