Jewish Writing Opportunities
This is the time of the week when you will typically find a fresh set of “Jewish Literary Links” published here on My Machberet. Occasionally, I devote that weekly post instead to a round-up of opportunities in the Jewish-writing/adjacent space. And that’s what’s happening this week.
It hasn’t been very long since my July newsletter for writers went out to all 14,000+ of its subscribers. Within this month’s newsletter, you’ll find information regarding the following fee-free and paying/funded opportunities:
- Pomegranate Writing Fellowship from Jewish Women’s Archive
- Genesis Emerging Writers’ Programme
Additionally, these opportunities are open for submissions and applications:
- Babka Press seeks poetry submissions for an anthology on “Sheltering in Place.” No fee to submit; no payment for published work. Deadline: July 15.
- Applications for the Screenwriters Lab of the Jewish Writers Institute are open until July 15. No fee to apply. Fellowship award includes a stipend.
- Applications for the Jewish Film Institute’s Doc Lab are now open, with an “Early Bird” deadline of July 31 (until which time the application fee is $40) and a final deadline of August 21 (application fee will be $50). Award includes a travel stipend.
- For the next issue of Balagan, Writing on the Wall seeks submissions on the theme of “Love.” No fee to submit; no payment for published work. Deadline: August 1.
- Applications for the Digital Storytellers Lab of the Jewish Writers Institute are open until August 2. No fee to apply. Fellowship award includes a stipend.
- The Daniel Pearl Investigative Journalism Initiative (DPIJI), a partnership between Moment magazine and The Daniel Pearl Foundation, is open for (fee-free) applications until August 20. Award includes “financial and editorial support.”
- The Karsh Fellowship for Excellence in Journalism on Jewish Issues is open for (fee-free) applications until September 1. Fellowship package includes a stipend.
