I’ve just received an e-mail from AWP (the Association of Writers and Writing Programs) which reads, in part:
“WRITING STUDENTS DISPLACED BY HURRICANE KATRINA
If you are a creative writing student and your college or university has been closed due to the destruction of Hurricane Katrina, you should know that AWP has identified creative writing programs ready to accommodate you. Please call AWP for help. (703) 993-4301.”
Just read an e-mail from Bret Lott, editor of the Baton Rouge-based Southern Review, about another hurricane relief program–one with specific relevance to practicing writers. To put it bluntly, you can help people in need and get a free copy of the journal at the same time (his e-mail is much more eloquent than my explanation). You can find his message over at The Emerging Writers’ Network blog.
And The Southeast Review, based in Tallahassee, has announced a similar program. Read about it at the journal’s website.
(From the Literary Call for Papers Mailing List at the University of Pennsylvania): “Contributors sought for Encyclopedia of American Literature, 1986-1945 to be produced by Manly Inc. and published by Facts on File. Entries will treat authors; significant works; and literary schools, movements, genres.
