Short Story Submissions

If you’ve taken a look at the new Writer magazine (the October 2005 issue) you may have seen my article, “How to submit your short story,” which appears on page 13.

And if you’re looking for even more guidance on the nuts and bolts of short story submissions, be sure to check out our current course offerings.

Help for Creative Writing Students Displaced by Katrina

I’ve just received an e-mail from AWP (the Association of Writers and Writing Programs) which reads, in part:

“WRITING STUDENTS DISPLACED BY HURRICANE KATRINA
If you are a creative writing student and your college or university has been closed due to the destruction of Hurricane Katrina, you should know that AWP has identified creative writing programs ready to accommodate you. Please call AWP for help. (703) 993-4301.”

Literary Journals and Hurricane Relief

Just read an e-mail from Bret Lott, editor of the Baton Rouge-based Southern Review, about another hurricane relief program–one with specific relevance to practicing writers. To put it bluntly, you can help people in need and get a free copy of the journal at the same time (his e-mail is much more eloquent than my explanation). You can find his message over at The Emerging Writers’ Network blog.

And The Southeast Review, based in Tallahassee, has announced a similar program. Read about it at the journal’s website.
