Markets and Jobs for Writers

Each week in this space, Practicing Writing shares no-fee, paying markets for writers of fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction: competitions, contests, and calls for submissions. These weekly posts complement monthly issues of The Practicing Writer newsletter, where you’ll always find more listings, none of them limiting eligibility to residents of a single municipality, state, or province. (But this blog does share those more localized opportunities, including jobs.)

As always, if you’d like to share a specific opportunity listed here, please credit the blog for the find. Thanks for respecting the time and effort that I put into researching, curating, and posting this information! I do notice, and I appreciate the courtesy.

Each week (typically Fridays), the Practicing Writing blog offers writing and publishing resources, news, and reflections to peruse over the weekend.

  • “Have fun at the end of June (starting June 24) by participating in the first ever Personal Essay Writing Challenge. Writer’s Digest provides a free daily prompt during the final week of June to help spark new personal essays (and the possibility of publication).” NB: Details not [yet] specified about the publication opportunity.)
  • “Ursula K. Le Guin’s home will become a writers residency.
  • A magazine asked me to comment on (some of) what’s been going on in the literary community lately. Here’s what I wrote.
  • On My Machberet: a dispatch from the latest International Book Fair in Morocco, a speech by Nobel literature laureate Herta Müller, and much more.
  • And as we reach the mid-month point, make sure you haven’t missed any of the still-open opportunities in our latest monthly newsletter and the most recent weekly supplements. Everything listed is fee-free and paying.

Have a great weekend!
