Monday Markets for Writers: No Fees, Paying Gigs

dollar-sign-mdMonday brings the weekly batch of no-fee competitions/contests, paying submission calls, and jobs for those of us who write (especially those of us who write fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction).

  • The 2014 In Cahoots Collaboration Contest is open for submissions. For collaborative work only: “This means all submissions must be created by 2+ people.” NB: “All submissions must include a literary component but may include or be paired with a visual or audio component.” $50 cash prize. Deadline: October 1, 2014. No entry fee. (h/t CRWROPPS-B)
  • Application deadline extended to July 18 for the Poets & Writers Galen Williams Fellowship Program. “Three part-time, paid positions are available in our New York City office. Fellowships positions are best suited to a graduate student or an individual who has recently completed a graduate degree; however, other qualified and motivated candidates will also be considered. Each fellow will work twenty hours per week for ten months (September 2014 through June 2015), providing valuable support as well as fresh insight and creativity to our team. In turn, Poets & Writers will provide a comprehensive apprenticeship in one of three program areas.”
  • “Bustle is seeking a freelance news writer to help fill its news vertical with intelligent, thoughtful content. The writer will be paid a daily stipend, and will be expected to produce roughly 4-5 posts per shift. We’re especially looking for a writer with a flexible schedule who is interested in covering nights and weekends.” Remote location or work from the Brooklyn office.

  • “The Creative Writing Program, part of the Arts Program at Bryn Mawr College [Pennsylvania], invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the level of advanced Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Creative Writing to begin August 1, 2015, with a specialization in prose fiction and creative nonfiction.”
  • “Bay Path University [Massachusetts] is seeking an experienced adjunct faculty member for this on-ground undergraduate course [Literary Genres] beginning August 25, 2014.”
  • “The English Department at DePaul University invites applications for two full-time non-tenure-track positions in Creative Writing for the 2014-2015 academic year. These are one-year positions and carry a teaching load of three courses per quarter. Candidates should be prepared to teach creative writing workshops, particularly fiction, for the undergraduate Creative Writing program and Master’s in Writing and Publishing Program, along with general education literature courses. Secondary expertise in other genres and areas (poetry, nonfiction, publishing, editing) is also desirable. Salary is commensurate with experience. Position carries full benefits.”
