Friday Finds for Writers

Treasure Chest
Writing-related resources, news, and reflections to enjoy over the weekend.

  • Congratulations to Diane Lockward on the birth of Terrapin Books, her new small press for poetry books (and thanks to her for outlining the steps she has taken to make it happen).
  • While we’re on the subject of poetry: I’ve bookmarked for closer analysis Adam Fitzgerald’s “30 Must-Read Poetry Debuts from 2015” (on Literary Hub).
  • Also bookmarked: Entropy’s list that “brings together some of the best small presses, publishers, magazines, and literary journals of 2015. This doesn’t mean necessarily those that were founded or started this year, just those we thought were doing particularly exciting & generous things this year and deserve a little bit of extra attention.”
  • Building Buzz Before Your Book Comes Out: 10 Strategies that Work” — solid tips from Jennifer Kincheloe (via @Sree).
  • Two things I loved about Sonya Larson’s post on “Mixed Race Experience in Celeste Ng’s Everything I Never Told You: 1) its focus on a marvelous novel and 2) its revelation of Sonya’s own achievement-laden bio (I’ve known Sonya for years via Grub Street, but until now I hadn’t realized exactly how much she’s been doing, so exceptionally well, at Grub and elsewhere, all this time).
  • Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.
