Pre-Shabbat Jewish Literary Links

Every Friday My Machberet presents an array of Jewish-interest links, primarily of the literary variety.

  • There’s a new Jewish book club in town (actually, it’s online). Read more about The Whole Megillah Book Club.
  • On this week’s “Israel in Translation” podcast: “Excerpts from the novel ‘And The Rat Laughed,’ by the late Nava Semel. Her work was the first to address the topic of the so-called ‘Second Generation’— children of Holocaust survivors. Nava passed away in December 2017.”
  • Leon Wiener Dow (reminder: I’m working with him on the promotion of his latest book) has a compelling new piece on the Lilith blog: “#YouToo: A Jewish Man’s Accounting.”
  • ICYMI: The January Jewish Book Carnival went live this week. And it’s hosted right here on My Machberet.
  • And an anniversary note: Today marks seven years since my short-story collection Quiet Americans was published. Not coincidentally, it’s also the anniversary of the long-ago day when my paternal grandparents married.
  • Shabbat shalom.
