Sunday Sentence

Every weekend I participate in David Abrams’s “#SundaySentence” project, sharing the best sentence I’ve read during the past week, “out of context and without commentary.”

Front cover of the October 2019 issue of THE ATLANTIC magazine.

It’s been a blur of a week, so I’m going to “cheat” somewhat and say this: It took me several days to read through the many superb pieces in this month’s issue of The Atlantic. I’m confident that I could have selected at least one #SundaySentence-worthy sentence from any of them. But I haven’t done that. If you’re not a subscriber, you have only limited access to what’s in the current issue. And if you are a subscriber, I hope that you may agree that my approach here is reasonable and warranted.
